LoRa Alliance certification program

LoRa AllianceTM certification program
One of the goals for 2018 is to increase the number of certified devices available in the market.

LoRaWANCertification - 7layersFor any technology to scale within an open ecosystem with multiple vendors it is critical to give confidence of interoperability. The LoRa AllianceTM  certification program for LoRaWAN™ device, sensor and module manufacturers is promoted by 7layers. Being certified gives manufacturers the right to use the official LoRaWANTM Certified logo and it helps to market their products accordingly.

7layers is an active LoRa AllianceTM member and it is also authorized for device, sensor and module certifications and performance evaluations. “We are part of the Alliance activities now since three years and we have seen a very fast growing ecosystem”, said Thomas Jaeger responsible for Business Developments and Innovations at 7layers. “7layers helps all kind of IoT stakeholders to prepare and finalize their products and services for successful operations. This includes also the LoRa AllianceTM certification program. We are offering all related services”.

DSRC-V2X: 7layers gains status as 1st authorized test lab

7layers – first authorized test laboratory for DSRC-V2X technology
Conformance Certification in Emerging Connected Vehicle and Automation Market

Irvine, California, 7th September 2017

7layers has been authorized by the OmniAir Consortium to become the first OmniAir Authorized Test Laboratory (OATL) for Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) based Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology. This makes 7layers part of OmniAir’s commercial Connected Vehicle certification program, launching October 1, 2017.

OmniAir’s certification program

OmniAir’s certification program provides third party accredited laboratory testing and validation of DSRC-based V2X devices to ensure that device manufacturers, suppliers and automotive OEMs entering the V2X market develop products that conform to industry protocol standards and specifications, to bring about trusted device communications.

7layers, a Bureau Veritas Group company, runs engineering and test centers specializing in wireless technologies. 7layers supports the development, testing and market access processes of connected devices, as well as the set-up and maintenance of smart IoT services through its test products and services. With facilities in North America, Europe and Asia, 7layers works with manufacturers, network operators, technology developers and organizations supporting wireless technologies across multiple industries, including the fast-growing automotive market with its Vehicle-to-Everything applications. As a member of OmniAir, 7layers participated in developing the Connected Vehicle Next Stage Certification Program, initiated by the USDOT.

Benefits of the connected vehicle certification program from OmniAir

“Independent, third party certification for interoperable devices is a vital step that reveals a level of readiness and maturity of the technology,” said OmniAir Consortium’s, Executive Director Jason Conley. “Security certificate authorities are also looking at third party certification to serve as a litmus test deciding which devices will receive production certificates.”

“7layers is thrilled to be selected as the first OmniAir Authorized Test Laboratory for the Connected Vehicle certification program,” remarked CEO Fernando Rodríguez of 7layers, Inc. “We expect this program to be an important step in making our roads safer, and vehicle transport more efficient and environmentally friendly. As an OATL, 7layers now has the chance to support industry innovation through certification, by letting good quality products stand out in the V2X market.”

OmniAir Consortium was founded over 10 years ago, with the express purpose of promoting communications conformance and interoperability among intelligent transportation technologies, irrespective of the communications platform. OmniAir and its members have worked collaboratively with transportation stakeholders to develop requirements and specifications for both tolling and Connected Vehicles. Since 2012, OmniAir has certified RFID tags and readers used in electronic toll collection systems.

Actility and 7layers join forces for ThingPark Connected

Actility joins forces with 7layers to scale up
ThingPark Connected programme globally

Actility7layers - a Bureau Veritas Group Company

Actility, the industry leader in low power wide area networking, today announces that it has selected 7layers, the leading international testing and certification house for the wireless industry, to implement the interoperability testing that leads to Actility’s “ThingPark Connected” status. ThingPark Connected devices have been extensively tested through LoRaWAN use cases and application integration to confirm interoperability in networks powered by Actility’s network server and management software.

7layers has implemented the ThingPark Connected test plans for Europe, and the service is now available through ThingPark Market.

“We’re very pleased to launch this collaboration with 7layers, one of the leading global wireless test houses,” says Actility EVP for Products, Boris Lacroix,”It’s a mark of the strength of the Connecting with ThingPark programme, and the demand that we are seeing from our device vendor partners, that we needed to bring aboard a dedicated global specialist like 7layers only months after the programme launched. Our partners recognize that getting to be ThingPark Connected is a product improvement programme, not a barrier that must be overcome, and they know that it will increase the reach and profile of their product dramatically“

ThingPark“7layers will ensure that the whole process runs extremely smooth, providing support from our own engineers throughout,” explains Dipl-Ing Thomas Jaeger, Director for Group Business Development & Innovation at 7layers. “We will be able to offer vendors a full service, for example providing LoRaWAN Certification or radio antenna performance optimization alongside ThingPark Connected testing. This will help them make sure their product is optimized for real network deployment from Day One. The target is also to give service providers clear visibility of the whole process, so that they can be confident that the products coming through the pipeline are ready to be deployed on their IoT networks.”

Actility’s “Connecting with ThingPark”(*) programme is designed to support device and application vendors in bringing their LPWA products and applications to market.

The programme offers access to a world-leading IoT carrier-grade network platform, which has already been selected in over half the large scale LPWA network rollouts globally, and a developer programme offering support, tools and a community which can be accessed online and in real life through a range of developer events and meet-ups. When partners have developed their device, they can follow the product optimisation programme hosted by 7layers, providing the testing and recommendations to get you ready for market and leading to the ThingPark Connected mark. When their product is ThingPark Connected, they can market it through an e-commerce platform to enable and support global sales and marketing initiatives, targeting the worldwide customer base connected to the entire network of ThingPark powered networks.

“7layers will be a major asset to our programme, and support for our partners,” says Derek Hunt, Technical Director for Partner Services at Actility. “Thingpark Connected testing is available in Europe now, and we are working with 7layers to complete test plans and have testing available across NA and APAC within the next few months. Soon anyone who wants to join the ThingPark ecosystem will have access to quick and comprehensive ThingPark Connected testing, and more, anywhere around the globe.”

(*)The ”Connecting with ThingPark” programme, and the “ThingPark Connected” mark were previously known as “ThingPark Approved”.
