Over-the-air (OTA) tests

OTA tests are a way of establishing whether wireless device prototypes or finished products meet performance requirements. The entire signal path and the antenna performance are measured during OTA testing. Antenna performance can be affected by different product specifications, applications, the size of the housing, materials, bandwidths, frequencies etc.

Since antenna and receiver performance is crucial to the effective operation of a wireless communications device, many operators such as Verizon Wireless, Vodafone, AT&T and others) require their suppliers to test the optimum function of the wireless devices under a range of conditions.  OTA testing also plays an important role in product competitiveness. Irrespective of how well the device‘s other features are functioning, if the antenna is not working properly everything else takes on secondary importance for the customer.
