WLAN

WLAN stands for “Wireless Local Area Network”, and thus describes a wireless local network. In most cases, this refers to a standard of the IEEE 802.11 family. The term WiFi is also often used in this context, although this does not refer to the technology but to the certification generated by the Wi-Fi Alliance. This standard was first published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 1997 with the adoption of the IEEE 802.11 standard

In WLANs, a wireless access point, often in the form of a router, coordinates all devices connected in the network by forwarding data received from the Internet to all connected devices such as computers, smartphones and tablets.
