C-V2X demonstration at OmniAir Consortium Texas Plugfest

In a joint effort between Commsignia, Qualcomm, Spirent, Rohde & Schwarz and 7layers, a demonstration of testing C-V2X devices to the OmniAir Connected Vehicle Program test requirements was shown at the OmniAir Texas Plugfest. The testing demonstrated how the C-V2X devices can be tested for interoperability to support V2X applications and deployments that currently use the test specifications and certification promoted by OmniAir Consortium Connected Vehicle Program. 7layers Testing Services Used in First-Ever OmniAir® V2X Certification of Roadside Units

7layers Testing Services Used in First-Ever OmniAir® V2X Certification of Roadside Units

Silicon Valley, California, 22-Oct-2018 – 7layers, a Bureau Veritas Group Company, has announced that its certification testing services were utilized in the first OmniAir® Certification program for roadside units (RSU) — awarded to Siemens Mobility for its Sitraffic ESCos RSU.

The OmniAir® Certification program for Connected Vehicles provides testing and confirmation for interoperability among onboard units (OBU) and RSUs using Dedicated short-range communication (DSRC) technology. Siemens’ Sitraffic ESCoS recently passed the OmniAir Consortium® requirements, which are based upon USDOT’s RSU 4.1 specification.

7layers was chosen as the OmniAir Authorized Test Laboratory due to its proven experience in V2X testing. 7layers was the first OmniAir Authorized Test Laboratory for connected vehicles and were also the chosen laboratory to test the first OBU that earned OmniAir® Certification.

“Siemens was impressed and satisfied with the expert testing and domain knowledge provided by 7Layers during the testing phase,” remarked Marcus Welz, CEO Intelligent Traffic Systems at Siemens Mobility, Inc. “The OmniAir Certification program for connected vehicles technology applies the highest standards to measure compliance and quality and, importantly, ensure interoperability among products and services.  We are proud that our Sitraffic ESCoS Roadside Unit is the first of its kind to be ‘OmniAir certified’,” Welz continued.

“For a strong connected vehicle ecosystem to exist it’s important that both RSUs and OBUs go through the same certification process to ensure high-quality and trusted communication devices are interoperable,” stated Jason Conley, Executive Director of OmniAir Consortium®. “Having certified RSU’s available for connected vehicle programs helps deploying agencies make better purchasing decisions for these major capital improvements.”

7layers support the testing and certification of OBUs and RSUs to the OmniAir® Connected Vehicle certification program. The Bureau Veritas Group provides regulatory, environmental and conformance testing services creating a simple path towards global market access for DSRC-based V2X devices.

Background Information

Developed to support the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) Connected Vehicle Pilot Deployment Program, OmniAir Certification verifies that wireless enabled transportation products meet connectivity and interoperability testing requirements developed from IEEE and SAE communication standards for the V2X technology. A vital step in widespread V2X implementation, certification allows device manufacturers to obtain long-lasting security and trust credentials. Securing certified or trusted communications devices is the key to seeing national deployment of these life-saving devices and will help ensure that users can trust that the components will work within the system.

V2X communication is the passing of information from a vehicle to any entity (vehicle, pedestrian, infrastructure, device, grid) that may affect the vehicle, and vice versa with its main motivations being significant improvement in safety, congestion and energy savings. The wireless technology behind the certified V2X device was Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC), a vehicular communication system based on WLAN technology

Automotive radar sensor testing

Automotive Radar Sensor Testing

In motor vehicles radar technology is playing a leading role, supporting automatic cruise control with “long range radar” and anti-collision systems with “short range radar”. From the perspecitve of regulatory bodies, radar sensores are radio devices that must adhere to standards specified by ETSI (for Europe), FCC (for USA), ISED Canada etc. 7layers offers radar sensor testing for V2X applications operating at 24.05 – 24.5 GHZ, 76-77 GHz and 77 – 81 GHz, thus covering the requirements of the RED, the FCC and the ISED Canada.Testing takes place in our newly equipped fully-anechoic-rooms and antenna test chambers.

Automotive ultra-wideband testing

Automotive ultra-wideband testing

As one of the first test laboratories, 7layers is already implementing UWB product tests for keyless entry systems. The use of this UWB technology in the automotive sector is intended, among other things, to further increase safety when using vehicle opening systems.

Ultra-wideband (UWB) is a radio technology that can use a low energy level for communication over a large part of the frequency spectrum with short range and high bandwidth. UWB applications are aimed at sensor data collection, precision location and tracking applications.

In the future, OEMs will also use UWB technology for automotive keyless entry systems, which the first automotive manufacturers will launch in their new models as early as 2020/21.

GCF announces global certification solution for oneM2M

GCF announces global certification solution for oneM2M

As part of its work to increase interoperability to the IoT ecosystem the Global Certification Forum (GCF) and the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) will launch a global certification solution for global Internet of Things (IoT) standards initiative oneM2M, in the beginning of 2019. The solution recognizes the critical importance of mobile technologies in IoT-enabled M2M solutions. oneM2M certification through GCF will be key to ensuring proper functionality and compliance with industry standards for fast, efficient, and secure IoT solutions in the connected world.

"Smarten up" your Services – 7layers technical consulting for IoT services

Technical Consulting for IoT Services

The IoT is much more than just a mere network of interconnected devices. The critical success factor of the IoT is the range of new services and all those business potentials deriving herefrom. Business enterprises need to react to these new competitive playing fields at an early stage which means launching new smart services, „smarten up“ the old ones or developing completely new ideas. The technical consulting of 7layers has been designed to make initial set-ups of IoTs much easier or to improve and maintain already existing ones. IoT service providers therefore benefit from an independent and neutral partner who will analyze the various elements of IoT processes from an objective angle.

eCall and ERA-GLONASS test- and certification services

To ensure uniform provisions for the approval of automotive emergency call systems, the eCall regulation was set up for the European Union and the ERA-GLONASS regulation for the Eurasian Economic Union. Compliance with these regulations must be tested and certified in accordance with EU, UN or EAEU specifications by accredited testing laboratories and authorized technical services. Since July, 2018 7layers has been an acknowledged technical service (category A and B) for regulation (EU) 2017/79 and UN-R 144  and has approved ERA-GLONASS certification bodies through its parent company Bureau Veritas.
