Update! Ukrainian RED Directive Extension for Automotive RF Products

Update! Ukrainian RED Directive Extension for Automotive RF Products

On 12 April, 2019 the Ukrainian government adopted the amendment to Ukrainian RED directive 355  as separate “resolution”.

This extension is only relevant for RF products mounted within vehicles and as part of their functionality. It enters into force from the day of its publication.

The resolution/extension says:

  1. For the placing to the market valid certificate still must be available. It is allowed to use valid certificate, which was issued under old technical norms.
  2. Valid certificate under old regulation is valid now until 31 December, 2019 instead of 1 April, 2019.
  3. Some clarification for motivation of these changes: certification queue and implementation requirements for national language applied to the label, national DoC, user manual and risk assessment documents.

Certificates of related devices will keep their validity till max. 31 December, 2019 but not later than validity date written on certificate.

The resolution is online present as draft. >> to the draft

FCC publishes Guideline for Module Certification, USA

In order to achieve market approval for a product with radio technologies in the USA, manufacturers must obtain certification of the respective device or module in accordance to the specifications of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Many modern products take advantage of wireless transmitter modules that already have been FCC-certified by a module manufacturer to demonstrate compliance with FCC regulations.

Using the certification of the modular transmitter has the advantage of reducing the subsequent requirements for FCC filing. But there are limitations for host product manufacturers when it comes to making modifications or changes to the modular transmitter and antenna types that can be used in end products. Host product manufacturers are responsible for following integration guidelines and performing a limited set of transmitter module verification tests to ensure that the end product complies with FCC regulations. Host product manufacturers are also responsible for all additional device authorization and tests for technical requirements not covered by module grant.

At the beginning of February 2019, the FCC has published the “996369 D04 Module Integration Guide v01”, which shows manufacturers of host products what must be observed and implemented when using FCC pre-certified modules (full and limited approval). This guideline is valid from 1 February 2019 and also applies to products that were in the certification process before 1 February, but for which this process has not yet been completed. 7layers will promptly contact all clients concerned and agree on the next steps.
