PTCRB LTE Category M Certification Testing
LTE Category M or Cat-M is a low power wide area network (LPWAN) radio technology that lets you connect IoT devices utilizing low bandwidth applications. 7layers was part of the first wave of laboratories to be accredited to offer Category M testing in September 2017. We have test facilities that can perform PTCRB Category M certification testing in North America, Europe and Asia, thus being the first global provider. 7layers has more than 15 years of experience with PTCRB certification and regularly participates, hosts and chairs PTCRB meetings, making us an ideal partner for this new certification scheme.
The process for Category M devices follows the same process as standard PTCRB certifications. Utilize our Step-By-Step guide for details on how the PTCRB Certification process is handled or contact one of our laboratories directly for more information.
LTE Category M
As part of the 3GPP Release 13, a standard was created that defined Category M for LPWAN technologies in the licensed cellular spectrum. LTE Cat-M is suited to IoT applications with low data rate and low power requirements. This is ideal for many IoT applications that were previously utilizing 2G and 3G cellular technologies. LTE Cat-M applications can include IoT categories such as Automotive, Smart City, Connected Health, Smart Building and more.
