PTCRB News:
The CTIA test plan for mobile station over the air performance (V. 3.1) is under discussion
During the last PTCRB meeting in San Antonio (Texas) the CTIA / PTCRB RF antenna performance and converged device test plan has been discussed.
CTIA intends to specify new “pass/fail” criteria for antenna performance measurements until April 2012. The corresponding RF antenna performance test specification (Rev 3.2) is currently undergoing a review and shall be released within the next few months.
The revision of the antenna performance test specification will include
- European bands
GSM 900, 1800, UMTS Bands I, III, VIII, LTE Bands 1,3, 7, 8, 20 - LTE TRP/TIS
- LTE A-GPS
- Left-hand phantom definition
During the last PTCRB meeting it was discussed whether the Converged Devices Group (CWG) test plan should also be used for non-handset devices (e.g. Notebooks, Integrations), and it became obvious that the current PTCRB permanent reference document NAPRD.03 needs further clarifications.
CTIA clarified that all device set-up procedures are described by the RF antenna performance test specification since they are referenced by the CWG test plan. The current RF antenna performance test plan V 3.1 is dealing with notebooks so they should be covered as well. However this is still being treated as a “grey area” since the general applicability of the CWG test plan to notebooks and other integrations still needs to be clarified.
