7layers achieves test authorization for CTIA and Wi-Fi alliance test plan

Our 7layers test laboratory in Irvine, Ca has become an authorized test laboratory for the CTIA and Wi-Fi Alliance® Test Plan for RF Performance Evaluation of Wi-Fi Mobile Converged Devices.
A growing number of handsets employ both wireless local area networking (WLAN) and GSM/UMTS applications. Devices supporting all these functionalities are no longer just mobile phones but highly desirable, true multimedia devices. With the rapid adoption of products, supporting WLAN, quality and interoperability standards become an important success factor.

The Wi-Fi Alliance® certification program
ensures that WLAN devices from various manufacturers work together without any problems, thus improving customer satisfaction and reducing support costs for both product manufacturers and network operators.
7layers – authorized test lab for Wi-Fi Mobile Converged Devices
7layers, has tested and certified wireless communications products for many years. Due to extending our capabilities, 7layers has now been approved to test the RF performance of Wi-Fi Mobile converged devices according to the CTIA and Wi-Fi Alliance Test Plan, called “CWG-RF” (Converged Wireless Group RF Profile Test).
The Converged Wireless Group RF Profile Test (CWG-RF) measures

  • the quality and strength of a Wi-Fi signal sent out and/or received by a converged wireless device
  • the performance of the Wi-Fi antenna
  • the reduction of sensitivity (desensitization) of Wi-Fi and/or cellular receivers when interacting with active Wi-Fi and/or cellular transmitters.

PTCRB, CTIA and operator market access requirements
By successfully passing all CWG-RF measures, Mobile Converged Devices fulfill important new requirements of PTCRB and CTIA and a number of North American Operators. 7layers advises and supports manufacturers in order to cover the growing number of network operator purchase requirements. We also have years of expertise with the PTCRB and CTIA certification schemes and can provide you with the complete program of test and certification services necessary to fulfill market access requirements for mobile terminals and other wireless communications devices – a valuable sales tool for manufacturers aiming for the North American Market.
