PTCRB Certification ServicesWhat is PTCRB?
PTCRB stands for (PCS Type Certification Review Board)
.
It manages the test and certification process for manufactures of GSM/UMTS wireless devices which will be operating on PTCRB operator networks (mainly North America). This way the PTCRB network operators ensure that a minimum set of 'device performance requirements' are met and that the wireless devices in use will not cause harm to their networks. PTCRB operators reserve the right to block devices which are not PTCRB* certified.

Who has to follow the PTCRB Certification rules?
Module manufacturers as well as End Product manufacturers, implementing PTCRB certified modules, must follow the PTCRB certification processes.

What happens if I use a pre-certified module?
For North American markets, manufacturers, who integrate a pre-certified module into their GSM/UMTS wireless M2M device, have to submit their “End Product” in its final (production) form factor to a PTCRB authorized test laboratory for testing & certification.
Only a minimal amount of testing is requested in these cases, because the majority of the test cases have already been completed when the module was initially certified. These tests are there to ensure that the interfaces associated with the integration will meet the PTCRB expected performance requirements.

Can I avoid problems during certification?
Pre-certification
testing at 7 layers prevents you from running into unforeseen difficulties during the official PTCRB Certification Processes. Pre-certification testing covers some Radiated Spurious Emissions (RSE) tests and some CTIA OTA tests. Such tests cannot catch every possible problem. However, they can give you a higher degree of confidence before starting the official PTCRB Certification process and can prevent costly re-tests in case failures are encountered during the official certification process.

Which is the best way to start?
7 layers has been operating PTCRB accredited laboratories for almost 10 years. You can rely on our up-to-date understanding of the PTCRB regulations combined with an extensive knowledge of the world’s leading wireless modules.

Before starting with the actual test process for PTCRB certification, you have to understand and follow the PTCRB regulations:
