Type Approval Services for North America

Classical type approval” processes apply for the North American Markets.

Involved radio regulation authority or assigned private certification body assesses
documentation and test reports and finally issues a certificate
In-country testing is an obligation
Laboratories outside the USA might be recognized ir the work according to USA standards.
Less flexibility than self declaration. Re-certification even for minor product changes
    requires involvement of local authorities

Type Approval in the USA

The only regulatory body in the USA for telecommunication approvals is the FCC (Federal Communications Commission). Applications can also be submitted via Telecommunications Certification Bodies who then submit the certificates to the FCC webpage.

The FCC certification covers Radio, EMC and SAR (specific absorption rate) aspects. Electrical safety is not a regulatory requirement but is of importance to manufacturers due to market demands. After successful testing the documents are prepared by your type approval handling partner such as 7 layers, and then submitted to private T.C.B. (Telecommunications Certification Bodies).

Marking with FCC ID for radio products
The FCC certification covers radio, EMC and SAR aspects
