BLUETOOTH Qualification
FAQ
What does Bluetooth
Qualification stand for?
Any product implementing Bluetooth wireless technology has to meet
the Bluetooth Qualification Requirements, established by
the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (Bluetooth SIG).
The requirements of the Bluetooth Qualification Program are stated in
the “PRD” (Program Reference Document. It comprises requirements such as
testing, documentation, assessment, declaration, listing, marking and
compliance to auditing and enforcement. The latest update (PRD
2.0/2.1) came into use in March 2008.

What
is the objective of the Bluetooth Qualification Program?
The objective of the Bluetooth Qualification Program is to ensure a
certain quality standard and interoperability for all Bluetooth enabled
devices, whether they are end-products, subsystems or components.
Why is Bluetooth Qualification
necessary?
Bluetooth Qualification is necessary in order to apply the
Bluetooth trademark to your new products and a pre-condition of the
intellectual property license for the Bluetooth technology.
Can I perform the test and
qualification process on my own?
The Bluetooth SIG has given each member the right to qualify and
list their designs on their own. However, the usage of a Bluetooth
Qualification Expert (BQE) is recommended for a
smooth process. Members are allowed to perform tests above HCI-layer on
their own (in accordance with the TCRL). Category A tests below
HCI-layers have to be performed in a BQTF or BRTF.
What is a BQB? What is a BQE?
Bluetooth
Qualification Body (BQB) is an acronym that is now obsolete.
The current acronym is Bluetooth Qualification Expert (BQE).
BQEs are members of the SIG who are qualified to review your Compliance
Folder to ensure that you’re adhering to the Bluetooth Program Reference
Document (PRD).
What is the benefit of having a BQE
review my product’s Compliance Folder?
If a BQE reviews your Compliance Folder, then you will be exempt from
the SIG’s mandatory audit.
What is a Bluetooth
listing fee?
It is a fee paid directly to the SIG for products that receive a
Qualification Design ID (QDID). For more information, please visit
https://www.bluetooth.org/tpg/QLI_obtainQDID.cfm
You must be a registered at
www.bluetooth.org to use the QDID link provided.
How is Bluetooth tested
when it coexists with other technologies like WiFi, etc?
Currently, there are no convergence test plans. For now, coexisting
wireless technologies are tested individually even if they are bundled
together.
What is required to receive an
official quote?
The
Bluetooth ID number. It is also known as the Qualification Design ID (QDID)
or Qualification Product ID (QPID). Examples are B01698, B02157, B00813.
With this number, it takes seconds to find information about the product
that you have integrated.
Where can I get a BD address?
Visit IEEE at http://standards.ieee.org/regauth/oui/forms/
